Glad for "NO"

I won't sugarcoat this - can't, if I'm honest about it. Before moving out of my mothers and into this silly place we call the real world, I was a spoiled brat. Not in the sense of material items, but in the sense of will. I never did anything unless I wanted to, be it homework or housework, and god help any who tried to guilt me into it.

Consequences were of no consequence for me.

My marriage is much the same.

DH likes to say "Happy wife, happy life." Which really means it's my way or the highway. Not really the highway, but at least the doghouse. How else do you think I got a Bruno Delgrange saddle?

Lately though, DH has started to learn how to say "no".

My respect for him is growing because of it. I mean, it's not like I don't already hold him in high regard, but now I know he isn't a push over. A doormat. Chump. Nambypamby. MILQUETOAST.

(Which isn't to say he's like that with other people - just me.)

No, you can't have your own bridle. No, you don't need a new dress. No, you don't need more makeup (thank you Kryste for sending me a bunch for Christmas!). No, you can wait for a sewing machine. No, I'm not buying you a horse for at least ten years - stop looking online. No, your puppy dog eyes are not going to work today. These are just a few random examples.

My favorite? No, no Starbucks right now.

That last one is recent. Like, YESTERDAY recent! Finally, someone other than my friends Alexandria and Kryste and my godfather and the people at my barn have the balls to say NO to me!

Is it odd that this delights me?

:)
