Welcome to my blog, Silver Linings Housewife!
I'd originally planned for my introductory post to be about how fabulous my DH is and the importance of having a supportive partner. It seemed appropriate, considering that I found myself sickly today.
However.
On our way back from the stable (and I don't recall how this came up, I'm sure it was completely logical and made sense and it definitely didn't sound as ridiculous when we were discussing it), DH mentioned how a 13 year old girls he knew as a child had size G~I breasts. I followed that up with "I wouldn't be surprised if her insurance fully pays for a breast reduction when she's older:, which he followed up with "I know the military would pay for a boob job. Heck, I've heard of them even paying for implants!"
What?!?!?!!
Apparently, as he went on to explain, a woman can submit a request for a boob job on the basis that it is affecting their self-esteem. Extra consideration is given if they claim their size has caused them to contemplate suicide.
...................... (dot dot dot)
Which means that after I have my three-already-planned-for-children, I might be able to convince my doctor to sign off on me getting a lift and/or reduction. Mine like to flap around like limp triangles now, so I shudder to think of what they'll be like after THREE children. I mean, they're of average size, but still, running is awkward, even in a sports bra. The same goes for when I'm horseback riding - I have to wear a cup smaller to keep from feeling like they're going to smack me in the face.
Which brings up a question:
Why do so many women feel that they need breast augmentation to feel feminine / catch a man / keep a man's attention?According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation was the number one cosmetic surgery in the country in 2011 with 307,000 women getting the procedure. This is a 4 percent increase from the previous year and a 45 percent increase from 2000.
The popularity of breast implants has risen dramatically in the last fifteen years, and is now more than three times the 1997 rate of 101,176.
Personally, I don't support it. It isn't medically necessary. Those women aren't in pain because their breasts are smaller. In fact, they might find themselves in pain if they do have it done, or just simply dislike or hate the extra weight. I know I would hate the extra weight.
For medical reasons, check out the "National Research Center For Women & Families" link. It's a pretty long read, but very interesting.
I especially loved this part:
It is also important to note that a Danish study funded by Dow Corning found an increase in depression among women who had undergone breast augmentation. In that study, the women with breast implants were five to seven times more likely to be taking antidepressants than comparison samples of women who underwent breast reduction surgery or women of the same age from the general population. Among the augmentation patients, the women who had their implants removed and replaced at least once were more likely to be taking antidepressants than those who still had their original implants.
Anyways. I'm going to go ahead and blame the media.
